AUTM and Wellspring Partner to Deliver Next Gen Technology Portal

Chicago, IL, July 18, 2016 — The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) announced today that Wellspring has been selected as the technology partner to enhance AUTM’s Global Technology Portal. This will make it even easier to find the latest university technologies available for licensing worldwide. The upgraded solution will be built on Wellspring’s Flintbox platform, the world’s largest online exchange for early-stage technologies.

AUTM and Wellspring will collaborate on the next generation technology portal that offers more tools for technology transfer offices to market their innovations and connect with industry. Dr. David Winwood, AUTM President, stated, “The Global Technology Portal is important to our membership. Based on feedback from our community, we felt it was time to refresh our portal. After reviewing a wide range of vendors, Wellspring was selected as the best fit with its state-of-the-art and intuitive platform designed by experts in technology transfer.”

Wellspring is a global leader in technology scouting, corporate venturing and technology transfer software. Wellspring’s Flintbox software platform is widely used by universities to market and license technologies to Fortune 500 corporations and small to medium-sized enterprises alike. Originally created in 2003 by the University of British Columbia, Flintbox quickly emerged as a leading intellectual property exchange and the foundation for open innovation software tools.

Since 2012, over 30,000 technologies have been published on Flintbox and the AUTM Global Technology Portal. These technologies receive over 130,000 monthly page views making them the largest collective technology marketplaces. In fact, 88 of the top 100 U.S. universities in terms of total research expenditure list their emerging technologies on these marketplaces.

Combining the strengths of AUTM’s academic community with Wellspring’s technology and corporate client base promises an unrivaled technology marketplace. Dr. Matt Hamilton, Wellspring COO, said, “We look forward to this partnership with AUTM and building a portal for the community that will accelerate the pace of innovation through global collaboration. Based on our research, universities that engage in integrated marketing reported 3.5 times more licensing revenue. The partnership with AUTM expands marketing and commercialization to a wider audience.”
