An Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
The scientific study of behavior is what is known as behavior analysis. The main question that behavior analysts strive to answer is "why does a behavior occur?" Looking at the environmental factors that trigger certain behaviors, and doing experimental behavior analysis are two ways they try to answer the question. Some behavior analysts specialize in enhancing the quality of life of their clients by applying behavior change principles to natural environments. This is calleed Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA. The focus on behaviors that impact a person's health, happiness, community inclusion or well-being is called applied behavior analysis. Autism is a big benefactor of ABA therapy. Autism awareness has increased and we are able to diagnose and help earlier in an infant's life. This analysis is based on a technique that includes a positive-reinforcement system, which by breaking things down into small, systematical steps can create desired behaviors. This positive reinforcement helps strengthen good behavior by providing a stimulus after desirable actions and results in an increase of its future frequency. A contributing division to psychology and other disciplines, Applied Behavior Analysis is fully recognized by the American Psychological Association as a valid science.
Earning the certification to practice Applied Behavior Analysis includes a determined number of coursework hours with a complete period of supervised field experience, and the completion and passing of a national certification exam. The primary practitioners of Applied Behavior Analysis are called BCBAs, or Board Certified Behavior Analysts.
